University of Birmingham ask’s 4 the best

The University of Birmingham has chosen Yorkshire based telecommunications company ask4 to provide internet services to more than 4000 students living in halls of residence.

The University was looking for a supplier to meet the demanding needs of their students and ask4, the UK’s leading independent supplier of broadband services to student accommodation across the UK, were chosen because of their expertise in delivering quality, speed and an extended range of services.

Jonathan Burrows, technical director at ask4 said: “The challenge was to design and implement a new network infrastructure over the campus connecting all the student halls with fibre.

“Our experience in delivery enables us to provide the fastest and most efficient service. We provided manager training and workshops so the university staff could understand the changes and benefits the new system would bring.

“Throughout September ask4 staff were on-site helping connect the students to the service and more than 4000 students have already signed up.”

The company’s package includes a 2mb internet service with an upgrade capacity of 10mb, instant broadband and no download limits.

The educational sector is a key driver for ask4, a privately owned company with offices in Sheffield, and in the past 12 months the company has increased its student client base from 20,000 to 34,000.

In addition to the University of Birmingham ask4 also supply Sheffield Hallam University and the De Montford University students with a range of broadband services.
