Hello Belfast - A Visit To John Bell House
Back in 2014, joint venture partners, Watkin Jones Group and Lacuna Developments announced ambitious plans to turn a listed building, that once housed Belfast Metropolitan College, into student accommodation. Sitting next door to the Royal Belfast Academical Institute, the £16m development has involved retaining and renovating as many of the original features as possible, including the grand staircase, the central hall, the library and the stained glass windows. In 2014 the building was also renamed John Bell House after the Belfast born physicist, graduate of Queen's University Belfast and originator of Bell's theorem.
Speaking of the development following a site visit, ASK4 Sales Director, Oliver Riddle commented:
"It's great to see a grand old building given a new lease of life. Keeping the bed numbers to a shade over 400 has enabled Fresh Student Living to keep some fantastic original features and pose a substantial challenge on the WiFi front! Fortunately our partnership with Fresh has allowed for the early engagement required by our engineers to plan and design the right Wifi solution both for the building and today's students."
We look forward to seeing this building come to life in the Autumn.
