Job title: Network Engineer

To work as part of Technology department, responsible for guiding strategic technology decisions, mentoring junior staff and development and maintenance of Ask4’s in-life Network (Core, Edge and WiFi).
Responsible for maintaining Ask4's network as part of a team of technical staff
Manage ASK4’s Internet number resources through our various LIRs
Provide and help maintain highly available and securely managed networks in the regions ASK4 operate in
Manage backbone and edge capacity using the data made available from the commercial and provisioning sides of the business to ensure extra capacity is in place prior to needing it
Plan and manage peering, transit & content caches (both from a technical and relationship aspect) to ensure there’s enough, high quality external capacity to satisfy customer requirements while controlling costs
Technical implementation of network changes on a project basis
Be involved with product development across the business, working with other technical and non-technical teams across the business to enhance existing and bring new products to market
Keep abreast of interesting new technologies and make the business aware of them where relevant
Work within the pre-sales process to deliver solutions for customer’s requirements
Create both high and low level designs and also peer review colleague’s HLD/LLDs for a variety of projects
Develop automation scripts as required
Escalation point for technical problems with the Ask4 network
Adherence to Ask4's policies and procedures, including, but not limited to all the relevant Information Security and Health and Safety policies and procedures.
Report any health and safety breaches or concerns in order to assist the company in preventing future accidents/incidents.
Ensure you carry out your work in an environmentally responsible manner and inline with environmental policies and procedure

Seeks and takes advice from technical specialists / Architect / Manager, as appropriate.

Network availability managed within SLA.
Skills & Attributes required:
Experience managing MPLS based VPNs (L2 and L3)
Experience of operating large scale 802.11 wireless networks
Linux experience (ideally RHEL based) and an understanding of Linux networking and how packet forwarding operates
Excellent understanding of both IPv4 and IPv6
Experience of developing scripts (Python)
At least an understanding of WDM (wavelength-division multiplexing)
Knowledge of how CDNs work (Google, Netflix, Amazon, Limelight etc.) and how they deliver traffic to eyeball networks
Experience with Ekahau Site Survey for both predictive planning and surveying (802.11)
Experience of using CGNAT
Worked with enterprise firewall equipment in a HA environment e.g. Palo Alto
Understanding of how Ansible works with network devices
Automation of network devices using Python based tools such as netmiko, NAPALM, TextFSM
Linux system administration experience
Good understanding of virtualisation & hypervisor platforms, particularly on Linux (KVM)
Good understanding of the network based storage
Knowledge of git

Range: £35,000- £45,000
